Siding and Trim:
Green Solutions Remodeling is prepared to meet any needs you have for siding and trim on your home. We recommend either Vinyl Siding or HardiPlank Fiber Cement Siding.
Vinyl Siding is among the most popular coverings for the exterior of houses today. It is often confused with Aluminum Siding, which was one of the first alternative sidings to come out. Constructed of strong PVC, durable and coming in a wide variety of colors, Vinyl Siding is easily installed by contractors. It also requires little care and is very low maintenance.
Superior to Aluminum Siding, Vinyl Siding will not dent or scratch easily. And unlike Vinyl Siding, Aluminum Siding requires repainting often. Seamless Siding, a recent alternative which might be considered a hybrid of Vinyl and Aluminum Siding is constructed from steel on site and runs the entire length of your home. This prevents ugly seams and curling around the edges.

An excellent choice for siding based on its strength, versatility for multiple climates, and long-lasting quality.
Vinyl Siding is made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and has begun to be used in construction more and more all the time. They can be fashioned to resemble wood.
The average width of Vinyl Siding ranges from 6 inches to 10 inches. However, other various lengths and widths are available.

Maintaining Vinyl Siding
Vinyl Siding is by far the easiest exterior home covering to clean, repair and maintain in general. You’ll want to occasionally wash mildew, mold, dirt and dust from your vinyl, but other than that little care is necessary. When you do clean your siding, clean it with a soft cloth or toothbrush (if you have a faux-grain or any other texture). Normal, everyday soaps you might already have in your hope are fine to use. Remember that though it is durable, vinyl can melt. Keep grills, candles and other sources of heat far enough away from your home.

What is Fiber Cement Siding?
Fiber cement siding is a unique blend of materials that falls somewhere between vinyl siding and clapboard. Cement siding is created of a hollow cement shell with wood fibers running through it. Fiber cement siding looks just like wood when properly installed, but it offers benefits that wood cannot, such as a resistance to termites.
What to Expect from HardiPlank:
HardiPlank is a common name for fiber cement siding. Cement siding can last at least fifty years, and could provide good service much longer if painted and properly maintained.
- Cement is a readily available material, and the cellulose fibers in the siding are never taken from endangered trees. This makes it a green building material.
- Cement siding is impervious to termites and other insects who love to bore into clapboard. It is also very resistant to problems with moisture and mold.
- HardiPlank is considered a neutral building product. This means it is not fireproof, but is very fire-resistant, and offers better fire protection than wood or vinyl.
